President Geniva Brooks welcomed everyone and thanked them for their attendance. She mentioned that the refreshments today were furnished by Brad King. There will be a prize drawing at the end of our meeting today.
Minutes for our last meeting could not be located so they were not read and approved.
BUSINESS
There was a 12 to 2 vote on changing the term from one year to two years for the Officers. We will need to change our by-laws to reflect this change. Pat Robinson motioned that we proceed in this direction and Kelli Curtis second the motion. It was passed.
There is a problem with everyone on campus not having access to email so Geniva is working to get this problem fixed. Eric Mantz will be addressing the email situation and have this available to everyone so information about our campus can be had by all.
Our master plan is not complete and the work that is now being done on our campus will not be complete until late October. Geniva indicated that we should be aware of the handicap persons on our campus and how they will get around with all the construction going on.
Pat Robinson wondered why we did not have some input as to where to locate the new fountain.
CABINET MEETING
ATC and CEU are trying to work together so we’re not double counting our students. ATE will be changed to CTE (Career and Technical Education).
Maintenance is working on getting the lights fixed before school starts.
The ground crew will try to save the Ginko trees on campus.
The President would like us to meet with the Blanding association so we might start having our meeting over the network.
PARKING COMMITTEE
Hank Savage is on the parking committee and he said that the campus police cannot issue parking tickets without a policy in place. The committee is working towards that end. He asked if the members thought we should have an open campus or have parking permits. It was decided that we are too small for parking permits. The committee is going to stop people from driving on the sidewalks with their vehicles. Lisa Sherman questioned whether the speeding situation by the Nursing home has been addressed. The "No bikes and skateboards" signs will be changed. There will be re-painting of the red and yellow zones. There needs to be more handicap parking around campus. The designated Cosmetology parking should only be avail when they are open so the spaces can be utilized during the rest of the time.
If you have any concerns with parking, get a hold of Hank Savage.
MEDICAL CARDS
Geniva suggested that everyone make sure their insurance cards are correct. If they have a question, they need to get a hold of Lydia Peterson. The insurance company had to redo some of them.
We earn 96 hours of sick leave a year and can transfer 32 hours to annual leave. The Personnel Office will subtract any hours of sick leave we used in a year from the 32 hours and adjust our annual leave.
INFORMATION
There will be a breakfast on Monday at 8:00 a.m. and a luncheon at noon for the professional and classified staff in the multi-purpose room.
We have $766.00 in our budget. Geniva proposed that we send flowers only on special occasions and cards for birthdays, surgeries and deaths. Using the rest of the funds for a pot luck, meeting expenses for UHESA and maybe a picnic at the end of the year.
Edee McKinney had a motion to do this and Darla Cloward seconded the motion. It passed.
Geniva would like to portray a positive image of our association. In order to raise scholarship money, she suggested sponsoring a Craft Fair. The participants would be charged a booth fee and 10 percent of their sales. Everyone agreed to a Craft Fair. Mary Kava mad a motion to accept the suggestion and Pat Robinson second the motion. It was passed.
Geniva asked if there were any questions she could take to UHESA this week. She is attending a meeting in Cedar City, Friday, August 6th. She asked for some input to the 10 hr day for summer and everyone seems to like it. The would like to that year round.
Brad King asked us to be in charge of a Halloween party. He will fund the expenses and we just need to decide what we want to do. It was suggested to have the party Friday evening without children. A costume contest and chili supper was suggested. We will firm things up at our next meeting in September.
President Thomas addressed the group. He said he was very grateful for all we do for the college and wishes he could reciprocate with monetary appreciation but due to the budget cuts that is now impossible. He said that the landscaper is planning on plants instead of grass around campus to conserve on water. He asked anyone who is having problems with their insurance to contact him by phone or email so he can take care of it or make the insurance company aware of the problem. President Thomas drew a name for our drawing and Edee McKinney was the lucky one. She received a $5 gift certificate to the bookstore.
Next meeting will be September 1st, 2004.
